Year 2007/2008

Call for applications for Laboratorium of Curatorial Practices
11th year 2007/2008

Application deadline has been prolonged!

New application deadline: 12th November 2007

The World of Art, School for Contemporary Art, has been operating for eleven years:
it developed in 1997 out of a need for theoretical and practical education in the field of contemporary art in Slovenia. Former Course for curators, now transformed into Laboratorium program, is formed as part of the effort of the World of Art to establish a platform for discussion on curatorial practices in the field of contemporary art.

Laboratorium of Curatorial Practices is researching the system of contemporary art and possible ways of collaboration within it. It focuses at analysis, contextualization and valorization of the former achievements of the World of Art which, as the only Slovene program in the field of education in contemporary visual art, has formed a generation of young Slovene curators.

The public activities of Laboratorium take place at the Project Room SCCA, discussions and reflections between the participants also occur on the Internet (through forums and mailing lists), and regular informal meetings. Laboratorium is conceived experimentally and demands active involvement of participants within its working process.

In the frame of Laboratorium we will research contemporary art practice and various ways of curatorial work. From January till May 2008 we will organize several public events (discussions, talks, interventions) at the Project Room SCCA. In June 2008 we will prepare final exhibition of Laboratorium at Alkatraz Gallery, Ljubljana.

We invite everybody who is interested in researching contemporary art practice, curatorial and critical apparatus of contemporary art in theory and practice. From you we expect basic knowledge on contemporary art, interest in individual research and active participation in team work.

Laboratorium will start in November 2008. We will meet twice a month or as needed. Apart from that our communication will be held via mailing list. Program also includes academic trips around Slovenia and intensive working weekends.

Laboratorium will be lead by Saša Nabergoj and Petja Grafenauer Krnc along with external collaborators and advisors.

Please note that working language is Slovene.

Participation fee: 300 EUR
