Nika Špan
Pollution in Art

Lecture as an artistic event

Tuesday, April 22, 8 pm
Project Room SCCA, Metelkova 6, Ljubljana, Slovenia

In the 20-minute lecture presented as a sound and visual event, Nika Špan will try to reflect and define, what pollution in art means. Artist's intention is to clarify the meaning of the visitor's spontaneous dissatisfaction: "This is just a pollution," while watching an exhibition or an art work.

Nika Špan, Stop Art Pollution!

Kindly invited!

Nika Špan creates art installations, sound and light projects and interventions, video art and performance art. She graduated from painting and specialized in scuplture from Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. In 1994-1995, the DAAD scholarship took her to Kunstakademie Duesseldorf. She lives and works in Duesseldorf and Ljubljana.

Nika Špan took part in numerous exhibitions. In Slovenian world of art, her most relevant exhibitions are Retrospective at U3 (Museum of Modern Art, Ljubljana, 1997), solo exhibition Sold Works (Mala galerija, Ljubljana, 1999) and her participation at Manifesta 3 (Ljubljana, 2000), where she exhibited the work Ljubljana by Heart. Despite her heterogeneous artistic practice, all of her works address issues of artistic object and art institutions, both relating to art systems, their functioning and mechanisms (ideological contexts, social functions.). The artist pays special attention to conceptual background of the works.

More information about artist's presentations (selection)

No Nails, No Pedestals is presenting authors, working in the field of contemporary artistic practices (installations, performances, video, interdisciplinary & web projects). The artists can present their works by using different media and program tools for presentation on computer screens, television sets and wall projections. The audience is encouraged to reflect the works and intervene in the discussion and thus add to the interpretational level of artistic practices with their feedback.

SCCA-Ljubljana program is supported by Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia and Municipality of Ljubljana
