Damijan Kracina and Petre Varl, artists taking part in SCCA-Ljubljana project Internet Portfolio, and Ema Kugler, multimedia artist collaborating within SCCA video programs and video archive Diva Station are participating at the exhibition showcasing contemporary art from Slovenia.

Petra Varl, “SEXYSHY”, 2011, Drawing on wooden panel, 210 x 100 cmAt this year’s exhibition within our series on “Contemporary Art from the Member States of the EU”, the spotlight is on Slovenia – a country that is celebrating 20 years of independence on 25 June 2011.

Showcasing 18 artists and more than 50 pieces of their work, this exhibition – organised in association with Banka Slovenije – provides a broad snapshot of the creations of contemporary Slovenian artists. While paintings take centre stage, also represented are the disciplines of photography, sculpture, drawing and video; indeed, for the first time, three film evenings form part of the exhibition programme, one of which will feature a work by the internationally acclaimed multimedia artist Ema Kugler.

MORE ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Damijan KracinaDamijan Kracina (Kobarid, 1970), MA at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. He works in sculpture and media art. He was the founding member of the Provokart art group, which performed several public art events and projects. He was founder and art director of ARTileria Kluže (1997-2000). He was artist in residency in: Werkstadt Graz, Graz Austria(1998), Studio of Ministry of Culture of RS in New York, USA (2000), Tamarid Institute Albuquerque, New Mexico USA (2002), SFAI Santa Fe, NM, USA (2004). In 2003 he receive CEC ArtsLink Independent Project award. Founder and active member of Domestic Research Society.

Ema KuglerEma Kugler is a graduate of the Faculty of Economics in Ljubljana. Her field of interest covers different media: performance, installation, video and theatre costume design. She works as a freelance artist.

 

Petra VarlPetra Varl was born in 1965 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. She graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree from The Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts in 1997. She has shown her work in numerous independent and group shows, including the Sao Paolo Biennial. Since the year 2000 she has been working as an Associate Professor of drawing and graphic arts at the Fine Arts Department of the Teacher’s College of the University of Maribor. She lives and works in Ljubljana and Maribor.
