We are informing you about the exhibition project of art group KOLEKTIVA, co-organized by Vesna Bukovec, SCCA-Ljubljana's webmaster.

Anja Medved: Looking Through The Iron Curtain, 2010, still
Anja Medved: Looking Through The Iron Curtain, 2010, still

In the seventh Video Evening KOLEKTIVA presents Slovenian director and video artist Anja Medved. At the event we will talk with Anja about her projects and her collaboration with trans border cultural association Kinoatelje based in Gorizia (Italy) and Nova Gorica (Slovenia).

Two of her short films Memory Clinic, SI/IT, 2010, 13’ and Looking Through The Iron Curtain, SI/IT, 2010, 22’ will be screened.

About the artist

Anja MedvedAnja Medved studied theater directing at Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and TV in Ljubljana, she now investigates the issues that intrigue her in video, documentary film and actions in public space. Her work focuses on probing (historical) memory. Through the personal stories of people living on both sides of the border she explores the complexities of border identities and the constructs of national histories. Creating social interstices she addresses the contradictions of life on the border. She examines the topology of the margin of apparently different realities, which, in the case of her hometown, occupy the same location. She sets the concept of the dramatic device of a play within a play as a possible process of subjectivisation in the specific space of Nova Gorica and Gorizia, which – now that the external borders have been eliminated – finally have a chance to push their internal limits.
Since 1998 she has been active member of Kinoatelje. In collaboration with Nadja Velušček she directed documentary films These Were Not Birds (Niso bile ptice), My Borderline (Moja meja), Town On The Meadow (Mesto na travniku), Binding Memories (Sešivalnica spomina) and Timeless River (Trenutek reke).

About Kinoatelje

KinoateljeKinoatelje was established in 1977 in Gorizia in Italy by film critic, a professor of sociology and Senator of the Italian Republic Darko Bratina. From the beginning its main goal was to promote open society and stimulate cultural dialog between Italy and Slovenia through video and film. Kinoatelje is today active in both sides of the border as a versatile, many-sided centre for intercultural projects. While promoting film culture, it also carries out initiative in audiovisual production, publishing, research and conservation of cultural heritage.
