Artist talk
Friday, 5 December 2025, 6 pm
Project Room SCCA, Metelkova 6, Ljubljana

Welcome to a presentation of the work and artistic practices of multidisciplinary artist Aylin Leipold, born in Freiburg im Breisgau and living in London. In November and December, she will be working at a residency in Maribor as part of the GuestRoomMaribor programme in collaboration with Mark Farid, an artist, researcher, and lecturer at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. On December 18, 2025, her exhibition will open at OBRAT – space for art and participation in Maribor, which will be hosted by the Alkatraz Gallery, AKC Metelkova mesto, from January 23, 2026.
During her residency in Maribor, she is going to explore the city as part of the socalled guestworker route; a travel route that was used during the 1960s-80s by migrant workers to travel from Germany to their home countries during holiday seasons. The project will focus on the impact of the route on the local communities during that time and examine how those experiences have manifested in collective memory today.
The presentation will be held in English.
Aylin Leipold is a multidisciplinary artist based in London. Her practice spans from drawing and painting to metal and woodwork, print, video, and installation and deals with different types of loss of meaning and shifts in value, especially when caused by reproduction, representation, or translation processes. Found images, texts, and objects are turned into new objects, and brought into new contexts–using distances, gaps, and spaces, the artworks are dependent on their surroundings. She holds a BA in German law and graduated from Central Saint Martins with a degree in Fine Art in 2025.
