PROGRAMME

Alternatives
Selection from international summer film workshops by Luksuz produkcija

Curator: Vesna Bukovec (SCCA-Ljubljana)
Duration: 68′

The selected films address the themes of diversity, freedom and alternative ways of living and creating. The documentary Rog from 2015 is a valuable record of an alternative space in Ljubljana which we lost this year. The short film Lunch on the Lawn is a story about a homeless man and a bicycle. The authors drew inspiration from the Italian film classic Bicycle Thieves. The short experimental film Only Breathing quotes a 13th-century poem by the Persian poet Rumi, which thematizes the diversity, uniqueness and excommunication of the individual from society and highlights the freedom of the individual regardless of skin color, religion or social status. In the documentary What We Do, Blaž, a person with Down syndrome, presents his workday at the Druga Violina restaurant in Ljubljana. Followed by another documentary about alternative spaces from ten years ago follows, which presents The Metelkova Story. The documentary portrait Nenad presents a security guard working in the gay nightclub Tiffany, whom we meet in the documentary portrait of the same name. The selection ends with the film God’s Mistake, in which the performer Salomé talks about her life, gender reassignment and the problems she had in her childhood and youth because she was born in the wrong body.

The Association of Soft Landing Allies (Društvo zaveznikov mehkega pristanka (DZMP), Krško) was founded by a group of young people in 1995 in response to the lack of cultural events for young people and the general insensitivity to the plight of others. They prepare many projects in the fields of youth culture, contemporary arts, non-formal education, ecology, social and humanitarian activities. They connect youth and culture, with their work they try to alleviate hardships and support various marginal social groups. The DZMP is one of the pioneers in the democratization of film as a medium and artistic means in Slovenia. Luksuz produkcija has been operating within the DZMP since 2001. They focus mainly on media education of young people and the production of socially engaged documentaries. Every year, they make over 50 short films, which regularly win awards at festivals at home and abroad. They managed to attract mentors, established and internationally renowned filmmakers such as directors Želimir Žilnik, Igor Bezinović, Nebojša Slijepčević, Boris Petković, Marko Cvejić and others.
