Talk and screening

Photon Gallery, Trg prekomorskih brigad 1, Ljubljana

In her artistic practice, architect and artist Polonca Lovšin explores the relationships between humans and the living world, and the need to reflect on different ways of living and acting amid an environmental crisis. Her practice is based on artistic research and interdisciplinary collaboration with experts and amateurs. She creates art installations, objects, collages, and videos, which often represent only individual parts of a larger whole. She is a co-founder of the Obrat Cultural and Artistic Association, whose long-term project Beyond A Construction Site (Ljubljana, 2010–2022) has received special attention. Her work is represented by P74 Gallery.
At the Video Evening, she will present video works she has been creating since the beginning of her artistic career, which serve as instructions for using the objects she has created, as narrative video animations, or as evidence of life. They are interwoven with popular music and humor, which serve as a means of critical reflection.

Polonca Lovšin graduated from the Faculty of Architecture in 1996 and from the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of Ljubljana in 2001. In 2015, she completed her doctoral studies in visual arts at the Bauhaus University in Weimar, Germany. Lovšin has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions both domestically and internationally. She has been awarded several artist residencies in Europe and the United States. In 2011, she received the Golden Bird (Zlata ptica) Award from the Liberal Academy. In 2018, she was awarded the Jakopič Prize. She co-founded the KUD Obrat association, which focuses on public-space policy. Their most notable project is the long-running community project Beyond A Construction Site (Ljubljana, 2010–2022). Polonca Lovšin is an associate professor and chair of the Department of Visual Arts and Design at the Faculty of Education, University of Primorska. (Photo: Tanja Verlak)
