World of Art | School of Curatorial Practices and Critical Writing | Year 19

We have enrolled the 19th generation of participants of the World of Art School! At the public call, we received 21 applications, from which the committee, consisting of school consisting of the school’s heads Tia Čiček and Lara Plavčak and school coordinator Urška Aplinc, selected the Year 1 group. They are Barbara Povše, Blažka Kirm, Isidora Todorić, Jernej Čuček Gerbec, Lara Nagy, Lara Zupan, Lin Gerkman, Neža Vengust, Svitlana Ryabishchuk, Tina Poglajen and Vida Šturm.

More about the participants.

For the second generation in a row, we are creating the World of Art program in partnership with the Cukrarna Gallery/The Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana. The first year of the school will take place from October 2022 to September 2023. The second year is planned from October 2023 to June 2024. The curriculum is prepared by the school’s team Lara Plavčak, Tia Čiček and Urška Aplinc with more than thirty colleagues.

The first year is primarily aimed at acquiring theoretical and methodological knowledge. We will learn about the art system, cultural policies, financing mechanisms, communication strategies, and various curatorial practices. We will devote ourselves to writing about contemporary art and learning about curatorial work in theory and practice. At the end of the year, the participants will design a virtual exhibition, based on which a small group will be selected to continue their education in the second year. The Year 2 program will include studio visits, curatorial mapping, seminars, research work and modules on strategic planning and exhibition making. At regular weekly meetings with mentor Alenka Gregorič and mentor Vadim Fiškin, the group will prepare the final exhibition in Škuc Gallery in May 2024.
